Viking Throwing Axe – Hand-Forged Hatchet

Size: 14-Inches
Pack Quantity: Individual

This hand-forged Viking throwing axe features a hand-hammered head with a sharpened edge (56–58 HRC) plus a functional hammer poll with a hardened face for driving nails and stakes.

  • Handle: single-piece weather-proofed ash wood — one of the hardest, most durable timbers — with an ergonomic curve, a slight downward blade angle at contact, and a lanyard hole at the base. Choose 14" or 18".
  • Throwing size: the 14" option meets the specifications of most throwing leagues; we recommend it as an informal throwing axe and general survival hatchet.
  • Grip: thick harness-leather cross-stitch with a Norse-style leather strap near the base.

Specifications: Total weight 1.9 lbs · Head weight 1.4 lbs · Cutting edge 3.5" · Blade length 6.5" · Axe length 14" or 18".

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT. THIS IS LIKE A SCAM COMPANY.

My father who has been interested in Norse culture for decades now ordered himself and I one of these axes each for us to go out and throw together as a fun father son activity. Mine arrived first, and my my. The leather straps are much more haphazardly wrapped onto mine than the discription and images show is what should come. And not just a little off, but the bottom leather ring with the Norse design is set no where near where the discription states it should be and impacts the axe's feel substantially. The bottom of the handle is much too thin for a good purchase on the grip, and makes sense why the last leather piece would be there to provide the perfect amount of purchase for use. And they cannot be moved as they are pinned in place. That was the disappointment. What felt like a scam, however, is much more frustrating. This axe, and their others are made in India. So they can exploit dirt cheap labor for half assed products that can't even get the leather attached correctly while asking for the massive price they are charging for this shoddy "craftsmanship". That they themselves are getting for pennies on the dollar. Buying the cheapest stuff they can and jacking up the price under the pretence of quality products. Showing that profit is placed well above quality, integrity, and passion at this company. If you want something better than what resembles cheap axes sold at a flea market for $30, then I'd heavily suggest shopping elsewhere. Or go to a flea market for a cheap axe and save a lot of money. This company only exists to exploit those who have genuine interests in Norse culture, and are using their customers as gullible fools while they probably chuckle at the customers on their way to cash the checks at the bank. All while selling you **** for a kings ransom relative to its quality. Please, go elsewhere for your Norse needs.

Thank you for sharing this and I'm sorry the father-son throwing experience didn't go as planned.

Regarding the placement of the leather band, I understand it doesn't match the photos on our website and that's on us. But to clarify, the lower leather band was moved intentionally. Placing it at the bottom of the handle creates a grip obstruction during a throw and affects the release. We moved it toward the middle of the handle so it's out of the way. And the the tacking method used to secure the leather is also standard practice for working axes, as it keeps the wrap stable under the stress of repeated throws.

I recognize this difference isn't clearly explained in our listing, and that's on us. We'll work on making that update clear in our description and images.

As for our manufacturing: our axes are handcrafted by skilled artisans in India who take real pride in their work. We visit suppliers, review quality standards, and stand behind every product we sell. We're sorry this one didn't meet your expectations. If you'd like to return your product for a full refund, please reach out to us directly at support@norsetradesman.com.

BADA** AXE

I’ve bought two axes now from Norse Tradesman. I know a quality tool when I see it. These are well made and razor sharp. Very satisfied with the axe and great custom service. Fast shipping as well!! 5 stars

Disappointed and lucky

My order arrived today. I’m seriously disappointed. Both axes were covered in dark red rust. First throw on a standard softwood axe target, and one of the axe heads nearly came off the handle. Shifted over 1/8 inch up the handle. I have to shim both axes just to ensure the safety of everyone and myself at the throwing lane.
Can’t say I would ever recommend this product to anyone.

Disappointed in the quality, lucky no one got hurt.

Sean, I’m sorry this happened. What you described is a safety issue and not acceptable.

We are pulling this item from our warehouse for inspection to prevent this from happening again, and I have just processed a full refund for your order.

I appreciate you bringing this to our attention and again, I really apologize for the issue!

Superb quality! Very nice throwing axe, only problem with it was that the stain on the wood was put on over the leather straps so as they shift, a lighter tone of wood is revealed. Otherwise, very satisfied. Would buy again.

Close combat axe

This axe was originally made for throwing. I bought the longer one. When I opened up the box I hefted it and thought “Boy does this feel good! Perfect for very close combat! With or without a shield.” This axe will join my two other NorseTradesmen axes in my edged weapons collection!

Norse Throwing Axes

Strong, well made axes. I bought two of them. Balance is a little strange but you get use to it quickly. It's been great fun at backyard parties and camping. The axe holsters don't work very well and the axes tend to flip and wobble a lot.

Excellent work ..does what’s it’s meant too do … very cool !!

Better than expected!

This was a first time purchase from Norse Tradesman. My son had been looking for a unique axe for display as well as actual usage during Boy Scout and other outdoor trips. This product did not disappoint. It is built incredibly well, looks absolutely fantastic and was the perfect gift. This will not be my last purchase from the company.
